Who Deserves the Crown?                                                                 December 7, 2025

  • Read

    Joshua 2:1-11, 6:22-25

  • Devotional

God gave Joshua careful instructions for the destruction of Jericho.  God knew what the spies learned later from Rahab, the prostitute, that all the people in Jericho were afraid of the Israelites and how they were living in terror of them.  It was the perfect time to defeat them.

God had shown Rahab that He was, “...the Supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.”  She received that truth, and it gave her courage to hide the spies and send the king’s men in the wrong direction.  She trusted “the Supreme God” with her life and the lives of her family members.  She and her family were rescued when the walls of Jericho collapsed, and they were taken to a safe place.

In the genealogy of Matthew 1:4-5, it shows that Rahab was the grandmother of Boaz.  In Joshua 6:25, it says, “And she (Rahab) lives among the Israelites until this day.” No matter what her past had been, her life took a glorious turn. Her name is included in the genealogy of Jesus!

Rahab is remembered for her act of courage, but her deepest blessings came from her belief in God. Does that sound like us? No matter our past sins or accolades, we are accepted into the family of God because of our belief in Jesus and our acceptance of Him. That gives us the right to become a child of God. (John 1:12) That is who we really are!  (1 John 3:1)

  • Discussion Questions

    1. Name a danger or distress from which you know you were rescued from at salvation.
    2. Life isn’t always safe physically (think of the many martyrs). In the midst of trouble or danger, do we have a safe place? Explain.
    3. Discuss how we can daily be preparing ourselves, our hearts, and our spirits to go through trouble.
  • Activity

In the bathtub, float little boats you make.  Designate one end as the safe harbor.  Blow your boats toward the safe harbor.  The wind of the Spirit does that for us in real life.  He blows us (directs us) in the direction of safety, wholeness, and healing.

  • Pray

Our ultimate safe place is heaven, Lord, where You are making preparations for us.  Thank You. In life, we each experience some rough waters.  I want to remember what You did and said when Your disciples were in rough waters.  You walked to them on the water and said, “It is I.”  In the midst of our trouble, You are there. Every time, there You are.  I can’t thank You enough!  Amen.
